Central Computers was established by Saul and Sherry Yeung in 1986, when Apple took the lead and IBM followed suit in driving the personal computer revolution in Silicon Valley. At this time, Saul was finishing his PhD studies at UC Berkeley and spent a period in a teaching and research position. Sherry had obtained her MBA degree from UCLA and worked as a manager at IBM. Both of them grabbed the opportunity to enter the computer industry at this critical time. With academic discipline learned at top American universities and with work experience at top institutions and corporations, Saul and Sherry built their company's foundation in a systematic manner, from the beginning.

They were influenced by Stanford professor James Collins's Built to Last, and thus established a corporate culture for their company. The foundation for Central's corporate culture is Central's four commitments - to its customers, employees, vendors, and community. To its customers, Central provides a wide selection, low prices, and honest and excellent service. To its employees, Central provides an amiable environment, complete benefits, including 401k, learning and training opportunities, and profit-sharing. To the vendors, Central emphasizes on-time payment and providing market feedback in exchange for technical training for their employees and better service for its customers. To the community, Central devotes their jobs and careers toward the goal of universal computer usage and Internet access, and also participates in community activities and charitable donations.

In addition to building efficient team operations to enable company longevity, they also purchased all the properties where their stores are located. By owning their own store properties, they not only demonstrate their determination to ensure Central's long-term presence, but also gain financial advantage by being able to fix rental expenses, which is critical in times of inflation or other economic crisis.

This constant investment in real estate helped Central to successfully fight economic crises and also to build up a strong financial foundation, which it has leveraged for expansion. During the many economic downturns it has seen during its history, including the bursting of the tech bubble in 2000, Central has witnessed most of its competitors go out of business. When hard economic times have devastated the industry, large companies - such as CompUSA, Gateway, and Computerland - and innumerable smaller companies have all closed their doors. But Central has remained firm and has even expanded its operations.

Central is now poised at the right time to expand its business even further. Central intends to fill up all corners of Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area with branches of its stores. Silicon Valley is the leading area in technological innovation. Central's suppliers - companies such as Intel, AMD, IBM, HP, and Apple - are also Central's customers. Central counts all of the area's leading high-tech companies amongst its base of loyal customers. Central is honored and feels lucky to provide computer hardware and services to these high-tech companies, supporting them as they engage in the type of innovation that revolutionizes the world. In addition, Central also serves the local governments of the area, military and scientific research institutions, and major schools and universities. In particular, Central is a major supplier of products and services to the City of San Francisco, serving its governmental departments as well as its hospital and airport facilities.

The new direction of the company will bring more emphasis on its technical support services. Along with building and integrating custom workstations and servers, Central also provides repair and on-site network services. As computer-related technology becomes widespread and the software and hardware platforms become more advanced, a computer vendor must specialize in technical support. This allows Central to differentiate itself from online retailers who offer no value-added services, which Central does provide, along with its low prices.

Central will continue to maintain its dedication to providing a "wide selection at low prices," but adds the new slogan of "retail and repair." This signifies that they will expand their technical service section to provide for the support needs of their customers and the career advancement needs of their young technical employees. Central feels that it has the responsibility to absorb young university graduates as they come out into the workforce. Central seeks to shape their skills in its professional work environment and train them with the right skills to either move on to a larger high-tech company or to continue to grow professionally at Central.

While Central will continue to sell large volumes of advanced equipment from Silicon Valley companies like Intel, IBM, and HP, it also will be investing in relationships with manufacturers overseas. With the opening of its import-export office in Shenzhen, Central now has purchasing staff in China. Customers looking to take advantage with Central's close relationships with Chinese manufacturers can either purchase directly from our Shenzhen office, or through our U.S. locations. Our staff in Shenzhen and the U.S. can assist customers with product searches, customs forms, shipping arrangements, and quality control. With this new international branch, Central will continue to bring higher value to its customers by cutting out middleman importers and offer lower prices to the loyal customer base it has cultivated in over 20 years of doing business.
